The city of Salem, UT was originally known as Pond Town by its early settlers in 1851. It was later changed to Salem in recognition of Lyman Curtis who was born in Salem, Massachusetts. Lyman Curtis was a gun-slinging bodyguard of Joseph Smith, the prophet and founder of the Mormon church.
Salem is a small city in the Utah Valley that is home to approximately 7,000 residents. It is a young community with a median age of 24, comprised largely of young families with children. The average household annual income is around $55,000 and residents are typically hard-working, middle-class folks who commute to neighboring cities including Provo, Spanish Fork, and Springville.
