You may wonder, what is it that mechanics do for my car that makes it last and live longer? There are many things that mechanics can do for the vehicle that can ensure good overall health and long lasting durability. One of these key, routine checks is a tire alignment.
A tire alignment focuses mainly on your tires. When you drive your car over a set amount of time, your car's tires can become disarrayed. There are certain signs and conditions that can indicate whether or not you need to get your tires aligned. Tires can lose their traction and hence become “bald”. This baldness can oddly form onto your tire and wear in places where it is not supposed to. A tire has treads around the tire but not on the sides where the hubcap and the axle are located. These areas are hazardous if they wear down and can cause driving situations to become extremely dangerous. So, if a car loses its alignment, most commonly the tire will wear down on those dangerous areas. If the wearing down continues, the tire can easily pop and cause fatal accidents to the driver and their passengers. Another thing that can occur is uneven wearing. When uneven wearing occurs the tire tends to wear down faster on one area of the tire (left or right) compared to the tire as a whole. The tire wearing is an obvious sign of a much needed alignment.
Other signs of an alignment problem can occur while driving. Have you ever been driving and ran out of power steering fluid? You may have noticed that it makes it so steering and control are very difficult to maintain and requires a lot of arm strength. The same happens when your alignment is severely hampered. Your tires can “bend” in a certain direction. This causes the driver to have to use a lot of arm strength to correct the direction of the tires. It is like battling against your car when this happens. An easy way to test this is to drive at a slow speed (5-10mph) and try to drive in a straight line. If your car tries to turn on its own then you know you need an alignment.
This problem for your car can have severe negative effects and can hinder the safety of the driver and all occupants. It is highly recommended to get this fixed as soon as possible. If you wait for too long, chances are it could permanently destroy your car’s steering. Have a mechanic fix this problem right away. A certified/professional mechanic can carefully inspect your car and tell you exactly what is causing, or has caused, the alignment issue with your car. Mechanics try to treat your car with the best care possible. They want to go to sleep at night knowing that they provided you with the best service and made sure your vehicle was top notch for safety.
